Breaking News is looking for an energetic and effective Team Leader based in Sao Paolo or Mexico City to lead a group that owns the first fifteen minutes of surprise news from any source of information: social media, websites, emails or TV.
You are thoughtful and accomplish tasks with speed, efficiency and grace. You thrive under pressure, have the ability to digest surprises quickly and tell the real-time reader what they need to know, now. You build and maintain strong relationships across bureaus and the global newsroom, while being an agent for change who's not afraid to think outside the box to meet evolving client demands.
You are a hands-on leader able to make split-second decisions on headlines based on your nuanced understanding of the news flow. You're energized by the challenges of handling the first burst of breaking news -- you're on the front lines, together with your team -- and you enjoy coordinating with other newsroom leaders to make sure the coverage looks as good as possible.

- Recognize when news is entering the broader Zeitgeist and send quick, engaging stories on trending topics
- Accelerate the evolution of our coverage through the adoption of new technologies & formats
- Be flexible with hours; news is unpredictable!
You'll need to:
- Be fluent in English and in Portuguese or Spanish
- Have a player/coach mentality
- Have proven journalism experience in a real-time news environment
- Maintain a keen focus on the needs of the real-time client
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with Bloomberg reporters, editors and managers across all our Latin America bureaus and Breaking News teams
- Embrace new technology and tools
- Be nimble on news coverage and workflow changes
- Be a skilled and experience editor on stories and sending headlines
- Have robust knowledge of social media and appreciation of how news breaks on various platforms
